Ways to Pay

Tap your Clipper card or contactless bank card every time you board.

When to tap depends on where you board:

  • Departing from San Francisco Ferry Building or Larkspur: Tap before boarding your ferry.
  • Departing from Sausalito, Tiburon or Angel Island: Tap as directed by ferry staff.

Paying with Clipper

Golden Gate Ferry only accepts cash value on a Clipper card. Adult riders who use Clipper get an approximate 30% to 40% discount. Discount varies based on route. To board the ferry, adults need a minimum cash value balance of $5.25. Seniors, youth, and Clipper Access riders need at least $5.75, and Clipper START customers need at least $1.40.

Transferring with Clipper

Clipper knows when to give you free and discounted rides when you transfer.

Golden Gate Ferry Golden Gate Ferry: Free or discounted ride based on the cost of your bus ride within 3 hours of first tagging on Golden Gate Transit. Not valid for round trips.

Any transfer to Golden Gate Ferry from the transit agencies listed below (within 2 hours of boarding first agency) will result in a discount of $2.85 off your total adult trip price.

If you have a Youth, Senior, Clipper Access or Clipper START card, you'll receive the proportional discount when transferring to Golden Gate Ferry.
