Ways to Pay

Tap your Clipper card or contactless bank card every time you board.

Tip: If traveling locally on a transbay bus, notify the driver before you tap to be charged correctly.

Paying with Clipper

BART accepts the following on a Clipper card:

  • Cash value: For single rides.
  • 31-Day Local Pass: Available on Clipper as a prepaid fare, a local 31-day Pass is valid for 31 consecutive days. Riders who purchase a Local 31-day Pass can take unlimited local rides within the East Bay.
  • 31-Day Transbay Pass: Available on Clipper as a prepaid fare for riders paying Adult fares, a Transbay 31-day Pass is valid for 31 consecutive days. Riders who purchase a Transbay 31-day Pass can take unlimited Transbay rides to and from the East Bay, as well as travel on all AC Transit local lines.
  • Monthly Senior/Clipper Access Pass: Unlimited local rides for seniors and Clipper Access riders for one calendar month. Available for sale 10 days before start of month through 15th of month. Valid first three days of following month.

Ride More, Save More with Maximums

  • After you spend the daily maximum on local rides ($5 for Adults and $2.50 for Youth, Senior, Clipper Access, and Clipper START), all local rides for the rest of the day are free.
  • After you spend the weekly maximum on local rides ($22.50 for Adults and $11.25 for Youth, Senior, Clipper Access, and Clipper START), all local rides for the rest of the week are free.
  • After you spend the monthly maximum on local rides ($84.60 for Adults, $34.00 for Youth, Senior and Clipper Access, and $42.30 for Clipper START), all local rides for the rest of the month are free.

    • Note: If you have an adult or Clipper START card, and you spend the monthly maximum on Transbay rides ($216.00 for adults and Clipper START), all Transbay rides for the rest of the month are free.

Transferring with Clipper

Clipper knows when to give you free and discounted rides when you transfer.

AC Transit AC Transit: Free ride on any local route within 2 hours of first boarding an AC Transit transbay bus. Discounted ride on a transbay route within 2 hours of boarding a local AC Transit bus.

Any transfer to AC Transit from the transit agencies listed below (within 2 hours of boarding first agency) will result in a free fare on local rides and a discounted transbay fare of $3.75.

If you have a Youth, Senior, Clipper Access or Clipper START card, you will receive the proportional discount when transferring.
