Clipper Direct Program Sunset

The Clipper Direct program will end on December 31, 2023. The deadline for orders to be submitted for the last month of service, December 2023, is November 14.


You should move your transit benefits program to another provider as soon as possible. You will need time to set up a new account and enroll your employees. A list of providers that includes all the types of benefits offered can be found here. Options include:

  • Direct loads: Employees place their online order by a specified date for direct loading to their Clipper card the 1st of the following month.
  • Transit benefit debit cards: Employees can use these to load value to their Clipper cards through the Clipper website at, through the Clipper app, at transit vending machines, and at Clipper and transit agency customer service centers.
  • Transit vouchers: These are available from a small number of transit benefit providers and can be used to add value to Clipper cards at Clipper or transit agency customer service centers and select retailers.


You should reach out to your employer and benefits staff to confirm whether your transit benefits have been moved to another provider and what deadlines might exist. This is a good opportunity to revisit any pre-tax withholding you may have in place or any orders for passes.

Please be reassured that transit benefits can still be delivered through Clipper cards. You will still be able to load value to your Clipper card through direct loads on the 1st of each month or through the use of a transit benefit debit card. Your employer may also choose to provide transit vouchers.
